research advisory committee
A small proportion of the ASI’s funding has been dedicated to core institutions who contributed to the establishment of the ASI. These organisations include the Australian National University, University of New South Wales and Commonwealth Scientific and Industrial Research Organisation. The largest portion of ASI funding is allocated through competitive R&D investment rounds. Applications under these rounds are assessed on a merit, peer-reviewed basis. The ASI’s Research Advisory Committee assesses funding applications and makes recommendations to the ASI Board. The Committee is made up of Australia’s leading researchers and experts in the field of solar R&D as well as experts in the financing and commercialisation of new energy technologies. The ASI also calls on international experts to assess applications for specific funding rounds. A rigorous conflict of interest process is maintained, which is overseen by an independent probity officer.
